Today’s topic is how to remove blood stains from your carpet. If you are looking for a method to remove blood stains, this article explores using hydrogen peroxide. It is possible to break down blood stains using an oxidation reaction with either 3% or 6% hydrogen peroxide. For fresh blood stains, 3% hydrogen peroxide will work, while older or set blood stains will require 6% hydrogen peroxide. We recommend using 6% hydrogen peroxide for the best results.

Hydrogen peroxide reacts with blood stains, causing them to break down and decompose through electrochemical reactions. You can use 6% Salon Grade Hydrogen Peroxide (also known as 20 Volume Clear Developer). As a matter of fact, hydrogen peroxide can be used to remove many different kinds of organic stains such as urine, wine, coffee, vomit, feces, cola soda, Kool-Aid, jam, beet juice, tea, Gatorade, and many other types of fruit juice, sweat stains, and stains from fruits and vegetables. To remove a blood stain, spray 3% or 6% hydrogen peroxide around the stain, scoop out any foam with a spoon, and repeat until the blood stain stops foaming. For set stains, spray fresh hydrogen peroxide on the stain, cover it with a damp cotton cloth, and place an iron on top of the cloth for 30 seconds. Use the cloth to wipe the stain in one direction, repeating the process until the stain is gone.
